Best IPTV Service 2026 UK for Sports Fans: Rights and Costs

Short answer: for a UK sports fan in 2026 the best service is Sky Sports, either on a Sky Stream box or through NOW, because it holds most live Premier League games plus F1, England cricket, golf and the EFL. Add TNT Sports (now sold through HBO Max) if you want Saturday 12.30 kick-offs, the Champions League this season, Premiership Rugby or MotoGP. Together that's about £66 to £74 a month. What changes the maths is next season: from 2027-28 most Champions League games move to Paramount+.

The listicles ranking for this search promise every sport in one "IPTV subscription". No licensed UK service does that, so the real question is which combination covers what you watch. Here's where the main sports sit this season.

Sport Live on (licensed) Free coverage
Premier League Sky Sports (most matches), TNT Sports (Saturday 12.30) BBC Match of the Day highlights
Champions, Europa and Conference League TNT Sports (2026-27 only) Highlights
EFL (Championship, League One, Two) Sky Sports, with many games on Sky Sports+ Highlights
FA Cup BBC and TNT Sports Yes, selected live games
Formula 1 Sky Sports F1 Channel 4 highlights

Premiership Rugby TNT Sports Limited
Six Nations BBC and ITV Yes, all live
MotoGP TNT Sports Highlights
Big boxing Mostly DAZN, some Sky and TNT Rarely
Wimbledon, World Cup, Euros, Olympics BBC and ITV Yes, live

Rights change, and the next big one is already signed. From 2027-28 to 2030-31 Paramount+ has most Champions League matches in the UK, Amazon Prime Video takes a first-pick Tuesday game, and Sky Sports gets the Europa League and Conference League. TNT will no longer have European club football at all.

Five fan types and what they pay

You mainly watch Best licensed setup Monthly cost (Oct 2026)
Every Premier League game shown Sky Sports + TNT Sports About £66 (NOW + HBO Max, monthly) to £74 (Sky Stream + TNT 12-month)
Premier League, but can skip lunchtime games Sky Sports only £34.99 on NOW, or £15 + £33 on Sky Stream
Formula 1 Sky Sports As above; F1 is included in Sky Sports
Champions League this season TNT Sports via HBO Max, monthly £30.99; don't take a 12-month plan
Rugby, MotoGP, cycling TNT Sports £30.99 monthly or £25.99 on 12 months
A few big matches a year NOW Sports day passes £14.99 per day

If the main TV is where everyone watches, a Sky Stream box with Sky Sports gives you a proper guide, recordings and multi-screen features. If you watch on a laptop or a second room, NOW is cheaper and can be stopped in summer.

Sky Sports: the core subscription

For most UK fans Sky Sports is the one to get first. You get 12 channels, including dedicated Premier League, Football, F1, Cricket, Golf and Tennis channels, plus Sky Sports+ for extra streams. It's available three ways:

  • NOW Sports: £34.99 a month or £14.99 for a day, cancel any time. Standard NOW is HD; Boost adds Full HD and 5.1 sound; Ultra Boost adds 4K.
  • Sky Stream or Sky Glass: Sky Sports at £33 a month on 24 months (£35 rolling) on top of TV from £15. Add the Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos pack (£6 a month) for 4K.
  • Virgin Media or EE/BT: as part of a broadband bundle; Virgin's Sport bundle started at £52.99 a month with broadband in October 2026.

TNT Sports: worth it this season, less so next

TNT Sports moved to HBO Max on 26 March 2026. The add-on is £30.99 a month on a monthly plan or £25.99 on a 12-month saver. On HBO Max Premium with TNT, sport streams on two devices in 4K where available. EE and BT customers can also get TNT Sports Ultimate in 4K on connections above 40Mbps.

For 2026-27 TNT is worth having if you follow a top-six club, because the Saturday 12.30 slot and European nights cover a lot of their games. From summer 2027 its football is limited to those lunchtime Premier League matches and some FA Cup ties, so its value for football fans drops. Rugby and MotoGP fans are less affected.

This is why we'd avoid a 12-month TNT plan starting after about August 2026: it would run past the point where the Champions League leaves.

Picture quality and delay

Two things matter to sports fans that rarely show up in price comparisons.

4K and HDR. Sky shows Premier League and other events in Ultra HD on Sky Stream, Glass and Q with the £6 pack. TNT offers 4K through TNT Sports Ultimate on EE/BT and HBO Max Premium. NOW needs Ultra Boost. On any of them, 4K needs a steady 25Mbps or so for the stream on top of whatever else the household is doing.

Latency. Streams over broadband typically run 30 seconds or more behind the live action, more than an aerial or satellite feed, which is why a neighbour's cheer can spoil a goal. Using the provider's own app or box, wired by Ethernet where possible, keeps the gap smaller than casting from a phone. Our explainer on why live sport streams run behind covers the details, and internet speed for 4K streaming covers bandwidth.

The 3pm rule nobody can sell around

Premier League and EFL matches kicking off between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on a Saturday aren't broadcast live in the UK. That's a long-standing rule to protect attendance at lower-league grounds, and it applies to every licensed service. Any seller promising every 3pm game live is using unlicensed foreign feeds, and that's exactly the content UK rights holders and police target hardest. More on that in our guide to the Premier League on IPTV in the UK.

The licensed route for 3pm games is highlights: Match of the Day on BBC on Saturday night, and clips on club and league channels shortly after full time.

Ways to pay less without going unlicensed

  • Drop sport in summer. June and July without NOW Sports and TNT saves about £130 in a year without a major tournament, and the big summer tournaments are on BBC and ITV anyway.
  • Use day passes for occasional viewing. Up to two Sky Sports days a month is cheaper than a full NOW Sports month.
  • Pick one of Sky or TNT. A fan who can live without lunchtime kick-offs saves around £30 a month by keeping only Sky Sports.
  • Check bundles when broadband is up for renewal. EE, BT and Virgin sometimes price sport add-ons below standalone rates for new customers.
  • Use free TV properly. The Six Nations, Wimbledon, the World Cup and Euros, the Olympics and live FA Cup games on the BBC cost nothing beyond the TV licence.
