Short answer: there isn't one best UK IPTV service, because the right pick depends almost entirely on who lives in your house and what they watch. A light viewer needs nothing beyond Freely or Freeview and the £180 TV licence. A drama household gets the most per pound from Sky Stream with Sky Ultimate TV (£24 a month on a 24-month deal). A football household is looking at roughly £65 to £75 a month for both Sky Sports and TNT Sports, and anyone quoting you all of that for £5 is selling something unlicensed.

Why most "best IPTV UK" lists won't help you
Search for the best IPTV in the UK and the first page is mostly listicles hosted on Google Sites, wedding-website pages and affiliate blogs. They rank 15 or 20 "providers" with names you've never heard of, all promising every Sky Sports and TNT channel for under £10 a month. Those services don't hold rights to the channels they sell, the names change every few months, and buyers in the UK have received warning letters and, in a few cases, visits from police. We cover the enforcement side in our guide to IPTV in the UK.
The useful part of those lists is their structure: people want a shortlist, a price table and a verdict for their situation. So that's what this page does, using only services that are licensed to show what they show. Technically all of them are IPTV: they deliver TV over your broadband instead of a dish or cable.
The organising idea here is the household, not the service. A retired couple who watch the news and Strictly have nothing in common, TV-wise, with a shared flat of Arsenal fans, and the "best" answer for one would waste money for the other.
The shortlist, with prices
Prices below are what the providers listed for new customers in early October 2026. Contract prices usually rise each spring, by a fixed amount stated in pounds and pence.
| Service | What it is | Price (Oct 2026) | Contract |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freely | Free live TV over broadband, built into newer TVs | Free | None |
| Freeview / Freeview Play | Free aerial TV plus catch-up apps | Free | None |
| Sky Stream, Essential TV | Sky box over Wi-Fi, 100+ channels, Netflix with ads | £15/mo (24 months) or £18 (31-day) | 24 months or rolling |
| Sky Stream, Ultimate TV | 130+ channels, Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max (all with ads) | £24/mo (24 months) or £27 (31-day) | 24 months or rolling |
| NOW | Sky channels on an app, no box | Entertainment from £4.99; Sports £34.99 | Monthly or 6-month |
| HBO Max | HBO plus TNT Sports as an add-on | £5.99-£14.99; TNT £30.99 (£25.99 on 12 months) | Monthly or 12-month |
| Virgin Media TV | Broadband plus TV via Stream box | From £28.99/mo with broadband | 24 months |
| EE TV | Broadband plus TV, Apple TV or EE box | From £41.99/mo with Full Fibre 100 | 24 months |
| TalkTalk TV | TV Hub add-on to TalkTalk broadband | From £5/mo on top of broadband | No TV contract |
On top of any of these you need a TV licence (£180 a year from April 2026) if you watch live TV on any channel or service, or use BBC iPlayer at all. It doesn't matter whether the stream comes from an aerial, Sky or an app on your phone.
Light viewers and older households: start free
If the TV is mostly BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, paying for anything is optional. Freeview gives you around 70 channels through an aerial, and Freeview Play adds the catch-up apps. Freely does the live channels over broadband instead, with no aerial needed, and is built into recent Hisense, TCL, Toshiba, Sharp, Haier and Philips TVs. For an older set, a Freely streaming box (Netgem's Pleio and the Manhattan Aero are the two named on Freely's site) does the job.
Freely wants at least 10Mbps. If the aerial already works well, keep using it; it's the more robust option on a weak connection, and Freely will add aerial channels if you plug one in.
Our pick: Freeview Play or Freely. If someone wants one paid extra, NOW Entertainment at about £5 to £8 a month is the cheapest way to add Sky Atlantic dramas without a contract. There's more on the free side in our explainer on free live TV streaming apps.
Drama and boxset households: Sky Ultimate is the value pick
This is where the arithmetic surprised us. Sky Ultimate TV on Sky Stream costs £24 a month on a 24-month term and bundles Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads, HBO Max Basic with Ads, Hayu and discovery+ alongside the Sky channels. Buying those streaming apps separately at their ad-supported prices comes to roughly £20 to £25 a month on its own, before you add a single Sky channel.
The catches: all those bundled apps carry adverts, the price will rise each spring, and you're tied in for two years. The 31-day version costs £27, which is the better deal if you might move or cancel. Sky Stream needs about 25Mbps and runs over Wi-Fi, so there's no dish or engineer visit.
If you'd rather avoid Sky's box, the alternative is HBO Max Standard (£9.99) plus Netflix, which gets you most of the prestige drama without the ad breaks, but not Sky's own channels.
Football households: you need two subscriptions
There's no single licensed service that has all the live football in the UK. For 2026-27, Sky Sports shows most live Premier League games, while TNT Sports has the Saturday lunchtime matches and, for one more season, the Champions League. From 2027-28 most Champions League games move to Paramount+, with Amazon Prime Video taking a Tuesday pick. Saturday 3pm matches aren't shown live by anyone in the UK, which is a rule, not a gap in a package.
| Football setup | Monthly cost | Contract |
|---|---|---|
| Sky Stream Essential + Sky Sports + TNT (HBO Max, 12-month) | £15 + £33 + £25.99 = about £74 | 24 months (Sky), 12 months (TNT) |
| NOW Sports + TNT on HBO Max, both monthly | £34.99 + £30.99 = about £66 | None |
| EE TV Sport plans | Varies by postcode and speed | 24 months |
The no-contract NOW route is cheaper on paper but the NOW app streams in HD unless you add Boost options, and there's no box with a channel guide. If the whole household watches the football together on the main TV, Sky Stream is the nicer experience. We go through the fixtures in detail in Premier League on IPTV in the UK.
Families with young children
Kids' TV is the area where free TV is strongest: CBeebies, CBBC and the ITVX Kids section cover a lot, all without adverts on the BBC side. What children usually ask for beyond that is Disney+, and that's the deciding factor.
If you're also after drama for the adults, Sky Ultimate TV includes Disney+ Standard with Ads and is the efficient choice. If not, Freely or Freeview plus a standalone Disney+ subscription is cheaper and has no contract. Set profile PINs on every app; parental controls on streaming services are per app, not per TV.
Renters, students and anyone who moves a lot
Avoid 24-month contracts. NOW, HBO Max, Netflix and Disney+ are all month-to-month, travel with you on a laptop or stick, and stop when you stop paying. Sky's 31-day Stream option is the one box-based service that suits a short tenancy.
Students are a special case for the TV licence: a licence at your parents' home doesn't cover you at university if you watch live TV on a device plugged into the mains. Watching on a phone or laptop running on its own battery can be covered by your parents' licence, according to TV Licensing's student rules. Check them if you're not sure.
Changing broadband anyway? Look at the bundles
If your broadband contract is ending, a TV bundle can be cheaper than two separate bills. Virgin Media's bundles start at £28.99 a month for broadband plus its Flex TV; EE TV with Full Fibre 100 was £41.99 a month plus a £30 activation fee when we checked, rising to £47.99 in March 2027; TalkTalk adds its TV Hub for around £5 a month without a TV contract.
Read the price-rise line before signing. Since January 2025, Ofcom has required phone and broadband providers to state any mid-contract rises in pounds and pence, so the increase should be printed in the offer. BT and EE, for example, list a £2 a month rise each year on TV plans.
How to tell a licensed service from a reseller
A few quick checks rule out almost all of the unlicensed sellers that top Google:
- Price against the rights. Sky Sports and TNT Sports cost roughly £60 a month together through legal routes. A service offering both, plus thousands of other channels, for £5 to £10 can't be paying for them.
- App store presence. Licensed services have their own apps on Sky, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV and smart TV stores. Sellers that ask you to type a server URL into a generic player app aren't the rights holders.
- Payment. Requests for crypto, gift cards or "friends and family" PayPal are a giveaway.
- Who's behind it. A registered UK company, a postal address and a published complaints process are normal for real providers.

Quick answers
What is the best IPTV service in the UK? For most households it is Sky Stream with Sky Ultimate TV, at £24 a month on a 24-month deal, because it bundles Sky channels with Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max. Light viewers are better off with free Freely or Freeview, and football fans need Sky Sports plus TNT Sports.
Is IPTV legal in the UK? IPTV is just TV delivered over the internet, and services such as Sky Stream, NOW, Freely and Virgin Media are legal. Selling or knowingly using access to channels without the rights holder's permission is not, and UK police and rights holders have acted against both sellers and some buyers.
Do I need a TV licence for IPTV? Yes, if you watch or record live TV on any channel or service, or use BBC iPlayer. The licence costs £180 a year from April 2026. You do not need one if you only watch on-demand services such as Netflix.
What is the cheapest way to get Sky channels without a contract? NOW. Entertainment starts at £4.99 a month on a six-month term, or about £7.99 rolling, and NOW Sports is £34.99 a month or £14.99 for a day.
Can I get Sky Sports and TNT Sports in one subscription? Not from a single licensed provider at a standalone price. EE TV and some Virgin and Sky packages let you add both to one bill, but you are still paying for each.
Do I need an aerial for Freely? No. Freely streams live channels over broadband at 10Mbps or more. Plugging in an aerial adds extra channels but is optional.
Which UK TV service works best on slow broadband? Freeview through an aerial uses no broadband at all. For streaming services, Sky Stream recommends about 25Mbps and Freely about 10Mbps.
Prices are the providers' listed new-customer prices in early October 2026 and change often, usually each spring for contract customers. Sports rights listed are for the 2026-27 season unless stated. Checked October 2026.
