TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters: Which Player in 2026?

Short answer: on an Android TV or Google TV device, TiviMate is the stronger player, with a faster guide, recording and multi-view. IPTV Smarters Pro was the more versatile one, running on phones, tablets, computers and some smart TVs as well. The catch is that in 2026 the comparison is lopsided: the original IPTV Smarters Pro was removed from Google Play and the App Store after rights-holder action, and many listings using the Smarters name now come from unrelated developers. TiviMate, though it has also dropped out of Google Play at times, is still maintained and updated.

The two apps in one paragraph each

TiviMate is an Android app designed for a TV and a remote. Its programme guide looks and scrolls like a cable box, and Premium adds recording, catch-up, multi-view and multiple playlists. It runs only on Android TV, Google TV and Android-based Fire TV devices.

IPTV Smarters Pro, made by WHMCS Smarters, took the opposite approach: one app across Android phones and TVs, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Windows, Mac and some smart TVs. It was widely used because it was easy to set up and free. It was also widely rebranded: providers could commission their own versions, which is one reason so many Smarters-like apps exist.

Both are players only. Neither supplies channels; both play the M3U playlist or Xtream login you add.

Watching live TV: TiviMate's strength

If most of your viewing is live channels on a television, TiviMate is the better experience, and it isn't close.

The guide. TiviMate's grid loads quickly even with large playlists and lets you jump through days of listings. Smarters presents channels by category with a simpler guide view that's fine on a phone and slower on a TV.

Channel management. Hiding groups, building favourites and renumbering channels are central to TiviMate and awkward in Smarters.

Recording and multi-view. Both are part of TiviMate Premium and work reliably. Smarters' equivalents depend on which version and platform you have.

Films and series: where Smarters did better

Smarters was built with a provider's on-demand catalogue in mind. Films and series appear with artwork, descriptions and seasons laid out much as in a streaming app, and resume points are remembered.

TiviMate handles on-demand content, but its heart is live TV. If you mainly use a service for its film library, a player built around on-demand browsing will feel better, whichever one you choose.

What happened to IPTV Smarters Pro

2022: Google Play. After a complaint by LaLiga, a court in Madrid ordered Google to remove IPTV Smarters Pro from the Play Store, on the grounds that it was being used to watch pay channels carrying LaLiga matches without authorisation.

March 2026: both stores. During the men's T20 World Cup, the Indian rights holder JioStar had 36 IPTV apps with more than 26 million downloads removed from Google Play and the App Store. IPTV Smarters Pro was on the list.

What remains. Copies already installed generally keep working, but they no longer update through the store. Meanwhile, apps with 'Smarters' in the name continue to appear from other publishers. Some are legitimate rebrands, others are unrelated. Before typing your login into any of them, check who the developer is.

None of this makes the player itself unlawful, but it does make it a poor choice for a new setup. An app that can't be updated through an official store is an app that stops receiving security fixes.

TiviMate has had gaps too. It has dropped out of Google Play several times, including for a period in 2026, before returning. The difference is that it remains actively maintained with an official listing; our TiviMate setup guide covers installing it safely.

Performance on real hardware

On a modest stick, such as an older Fire TV Stick or an entry-level Google TV dongle, TiviMate generally feels quicker with large playlists because it caches the guide locally and only draws what's on screen. Smarters tends to slow down when a playlist holds thousands of channels plus a large film library.

On a powerful box, such as an NVIDIA Shield or Google TV Streamer, both are smooth for live channels, and the difference comes down to interface rather than speed.

On phones and tablets, Smarters' touch-first design made more sense. TiviMate works on an Android phone but is plainly designed for a remote.

Storage. TiviMate's recordings need space; a USB drive on a box with a spare port is the sensible way to use them.

Logins, lookalikes and security

Your IPTV login is effectively a key to a paid account, so where you type it matters.

Check the publisher. TiviMate's Play Store listing is published by Armobsoft FZE. For any app with Smarters in the name, look at the developer line and the publisher's other apps before signing in.

Avoid modified copies. 'Premium unlocked' versions of either app are unofficial, can carry malware and never receive updates.

Stick to licensed services. The players themselves are neutral, but a playlist from an unlicensed seller is the part that carries legal and payment risk. Our subscription guide lists the warning signs.

Which should you use?

Your situation Better choice
Android TV, Google TV or Fire OS box, mostly live TV TiviMate
iPhone, iPad or Apple TV Neither: use UHF, IPTVX or iPlayTV
Windows or Mac Neither: VLC, Kodi or a dedicated desktop player
Smart TV (Samsung, LG) The TV's own store; check what's current
Already using Smarters and it works Fine for now; plan a replacement
Mostly films and series A player with a strong on-demand library view

Because your subscription isn't tied to either app, switching costs nothing but a few minutes of setup. For alternatives on every platform, see our IPTV Smarters Pro alternatives guide.

Moving from Smarters to TiviMate

Find your login. In Smarters, your server address, username and password are in the account or user-info screen. If you used an M3U link instead, your provider's welcome email has it.

Add it to TiviMate. Choose Xtream Codes login or M3U playlist to match.

Expect the guide to look different. TiviMate may name groups slightly differently; favourites will need recreating once.

Watch the connection limit. Running both apps at once counts as two streams with most providers.

Quick answers

Is TiviMate better than IPTV Smarters? For live TV on an Android TV or Google TV device, yes: TiviMate's guide, recording and channel management are stronger. Smarters was more versatile across phones, computers and Apple devices.

Is IPTV Smarters Pro still available? The original app was removed from Google Play in 2022 after a LaLiga court case and from both Google Play and the App Store in March 2026 after action by JioStar. Apps using the Smarters name still appear from other developers.

Can I use my IPTV Smarters login in TiviMate? Yes. The same Xtream login or M3U link works in TiviMate, as long as you're watching on an Android-based TV device.

Does TiviMate work on iPhone or Apple TV? No. TiviMate is Android-only. On Apple devices, players such as UHF, IPTVX or iPlayTV are the equivalents.

Is TiviMate free? There is a free version with one playlist and basic features. Premium, recently around $10 a year or about $34 lifetime, adds recording, catch-up, multi-view and more.

Are TiviMate and IPTV Smarters legal? Both are player apps that contain no channels. Legality depends on the playlist you add, which should come from a licensed provider.

Will my installed IPTV Smarters stop working? Not immediately, but it no longer receives updates through the official stores, so compatibility and security fixes will lapse over time.

App-store status for both apps has changed repeatedly and may change again. Prices and features are as reported in 2026; check current listings before relying on either. Checked September 2026.
