IPTV Smarters Pro Alternatives for Every Device

Short answer: the best replacement depends on your device: TiviMate on Android TV and Google TV, UHF, IPTVX or iPlayTV on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and VLC or Kodi on computers. Your existing Xtream login or M3U link moves across unchanged, so switching takes minutes. The trap to avoid is the crop of apps using the 'Smarters' name from unrelated developers, which appeared after the original was pulled from Google Play and the App Store in March 2026.

Why people are looking for an alternative

IPTV Smarters Pro was for years the default recommendation because it ran on almost everything and was free. Two events changed that.

In late 2022 a Madrid court, acting on a complaint by LaLiga, ordered Google to remove it from the Play Store.

In March 2026 the Indian rights holder JioStar had it removed from both Google Play and the App Store, along with 35 other IPTV apps that together had more than 26 million downloads.

Installed copies usually keep working for a while, but they no longer update, and new devices can't get it from an official store. Sooner or later, an operating-system update or a provider change breaks something.

Was the app itself illegal? No. Like any player, it contained no channels. The rights holders' case was that it was widely used with unlicensed playlists, and the stores acted on that. The legal question for you is about the source of your playlist, not the player: a licensed provider is fine, an unlicensed channel package is not. Our subscription guide explains how to tell the difference.

What you keep when you switch

The good news is that almost nothing is lost.

Your subscription. Smarters never held your channels. They came from your provider, through an Xtream login (server, username, password) or an M3U link, and those credentials work in any compatible player.

Your guide. Xtream logins carry the programme guide with them. With an M3U link, you may need to add the provider's XMLTV guide address separately.

What you lose: favourites, watch history and any custom channel order. Those live in the app, so expect to recreate them once.

To find your login in Smarters, open the account or user-info screen before uninstalling it. Your provider's welcome email should also have it.

Alternatives at a glance

Prices and free-tier limits change often, and several apps charge for the guide or extra playlists. Check the listing before paying.

Player Devices Xtream login Guide Cost
TiviMate Android TV, Google TV, Fire OS Yes Excellent Free tier; Premium ~$10/yr or ~$34 lifetime
UHF iPhone, iPad, Apple TV Yes Yes Free; PRO subscription
IPTVX iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac Yes Yes Paid upgrade
iPlayTV Apple TV, iPhone, iPad Yes Yes One-off purchase
Kodi + IPTV Simple Client Android, Windows, Mac, Linux Via M3U Yes Free
IPTVnator Windows, Mac, Linux Yes Basic Free, open source
VLC Almost everything No (M3U only) No Free

How to read the table. If your provider gave you an Xtream login, rule out VLC unless the provider can also supply an M3U link. If you care about a proper programme grid, the dedicated players are worth their modest cost. And if you use several kinds of device, there's no longer a single app that covers them all well: most households end up with one player per platform, all using the same login.

Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV

TiviMate is the natural upgrade. It's built for a remote, its guide is faster than Smarters' and Premium adds recording and multi-view. It has had its own spells off Google Play, but it's actively maintained. Our TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters comparison goes through the differences in detail.

Kodi with the PVR IPTV Simple Client is the free, open-source route: more setup, very configurable.

On Fire TV, check whether your stick runs Fire OS or Vega OS. Vega OS models only run Appstore apps, which narrows the choice considerably.

iPhone, iPad and Apple TV

Apple devices were where Smarters' removal hurt most, because there was no sideloading fallback. Fortunately the App Store has several well-made players.

UHF is the most complete: free to start, with a touch-friendly guide, catch-up, picture-in-picture and AirPlay. PRO removes adverts and adds sync.

IPTVX has the most polished Apple-style design and covers Mac as well.

iPlayTV is simple, stable and a one-off purchase.

All three accept an Xtream login, so the move from Smarters is a matter of typing three fields.

Windows, Mac and Linux

VLC is the quickest fix: paste your M3U link into Open Network Stream and the channels appear. There's no grid guide, so it's better for a few favourite channels than for browsing.

Kodi gives a full TV-style interface with guide and channel groups once the IPTV Simple Client is configured.

IPTVnator is a free, open-source desktop player that accepts Xtream logins directly and shows a basic guide. Download it only from the project's own pages.

If your provider has its own web player, that's often the simplest option of all on a computer.

Samsung and LG televisions

Smart TVs are the hardest case. Samsung's Tizen and LG's webOS stores carry a small, changing selection of IPTV players, and some well-known ones are paid per TV.

Check your TV's own app store first and look closely at the developer and reviews. If nothing suitable is there, a small Google TV device plugged into the HDMI port opens up the full Android choice and is often cheaper than a paid TV app. Our smart TV app guide covers the options.

Switching in five minutes

1. Note your details. Before uninstalling Smarters, open its account screen and write down the server address (including the port after the colon), username and password. Or find the M3U link in your provider's welcome email.

2. Install the new player from your device's official store, checking the developer name.

3. Choose the matching login type. Most players ask whether you're adding an Xtream Codes account or an M3U playlist. Pick Xtream if you have three separate fields.

4. Let it load. The first import can take a minute or two with a large playlist, and the guide may fill in over the next few minutes.

5. Rebuild favourites once. Hide groups you never watch and add favourites; most players let you back this up afterwards.

6. Remove the old app. Running two players at once counts as two streams with most providers, which can trip a connection limit.

If the new player says the login is wrong but Smarters accepted it, the usual culprit is a missing port number or an http/https mismatch in the server address.

Avoiding the lookalikes

After a popular app disappears, others appear using its name. Search either store for 'Smarters' in 2026 and you'll find several listings from developers with no connection to the original.

Check the developer line. The original was published by WHMCS Smarters. Anything else is a different product, whatever the icon looks like.

Read what it charges for. Some lookalikes are free to install and then require a subscription just to add a playlist.

Be careful with your login. Entering your IPTV credentials into an unknown app hands it access to a paid account. When in doubt, choose a well-established player instead.

Never install modified 'Pro unlocked' copies from download sites. They're a common way malware reaches TV boxes.

Quick answers

What is the best alternative to IPTV Smarters Pro? On Android TV and Google TV, TiviMate. On iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, UHF, IPTVX or iPlayTV. On computers, VLC, Kodi or IPTVnator.

Will my IPTV Smarters login work in another app? Yes. The Xtream login or M3U link from your provider works in any compatible player. Only favourites and history need recreating.

Why was IPTV Smarters Pro removed? It was removed from Google Play in 2022 after a LaLiga court case, and from both Google Play and the App Store in March 2026 as part of JioStar's takedown of 36 IPTV apps during the T20 World Cup.

Is there a free alternative to IPTV Smarters? Yes. VLC, Kodi with the IPTV Simple Client and IPTVnator are free and open source. TiviMate and UHF have free tiers.

Are the new 'Smarters' apps on the App Store the same app? Not necessarily. Several are published by unrelated developers. Check the developer name before entering your login.

Can I keep using IPTV Smarters if it's already installed? Usually, for now. It no longer updates through the official stores, so it may stop working after system or provider changes.

Are IPTV player apps legal? Yes. Players contain no channels. Legality depends on the source of the playlist, which should be a licensed provider.

Which IPTV players are available in each app store changes often, and removals, reinstatements and new lookalikes appear with little notice. Check the developer and current listing before installing. Checked September 2026.
