Roku IPTV Codes in 2026: Private Channels, Beta Codes and Scams

If you've found a list of "Roku IPTV codes" and none of them work, the list isn't the problem: the system behind it no longer exists. Here's what each kind of Roku code does in 2026, which ones still work, and why none of them can put an IPTV service on your TV.

Short answer: the codes people mean were access codes for private (non-certified) channels, typed into the "Add channel with a code" box on my.roku.com. Roku stopped installing and launching those channels on 23 February 2022, worldwide, so every IPTV code list is dead. The code box is still there, which is what confuses people. Today it mostly adds beta apps, which are capped at 20 testers and deleted after 120 days, so nobody can run a real service through one.

At a glance

Roku codes in 2026

Private channel codes Dead since 23 Feb 2022
Beta app codes Work: 20 testers, 120 days
TV sign-in codes Work, for apps already installed
Secret remote sequences Diagnostics only
Roku activation fees Don't exist; it's a scam

Every kind of Roku code, and its status

"Roku code" covers at least six different things. Most confusion comes from mixing them up.

Code type Where you enter it Status in 2026 Can it add IPTV?
Private (non-certified) channel code my.roku.com, "Add channel with a code" Discontinued Feb 2022 No
Beta app code Same box Works, for invited testers No: 20 users, expires in 120 days
Code linked to a public store app Same box, if the publisher set one Works Only adds an app already in the store
TV sign-in / activation code The service's own website Works Signs in an installed app
Secret-screen remote sequence Remote buttons Works on many models No, diagnostics
Error code Shown on screen Current No, it describes a problem

So the honest answer to "what's the Roku code for IPTV?" is that there isn't one. Anything that gets onto a Roku in 2026 does so through the Roku Streaming Store.

What private channel codes were

For about a decade, Roku let developers publish non-certified channels: apps that skipped Roku's review and never appeared in the store. Anyone with the access code could add one by signing in at my.roku.com, choosing Add channel with a code, and typing it in. The channel then appeared on their Roku after the next update check.

Legitimate uses existed: small churches streaming services, hobbyist podcasts, local sports clubs, developers testing work. But because there was no review, the system also became the main way unlicensed IPTV and adult apps reached Roku devices. Websites built huge lists of codes, some claiming thousands. You'll still find those pages ranking in search, some last updated in 2024, still listing codes that have done nothing for years.

Why Roku switched them off

Roku announced the change in late 2021 and on 23 February 2022 stopped users installing or launching non-certified channels, and removed them from its developer dashboard. Coverage at the time, including Cord Cutters News, linked it to the volume of pirated and adult content distributed that way.

The effect was total and global. A private channel installed in 2021 stopped launching on the cut-off date, and there's no setting, firmware version or region that brings them back. Pages describing "workarounds" are either out of date or describing beta apps, which come next.

Beta app codes: what the box does now

Roku replaced private channels with beta channels (now usually called beta apps). These exist so developers can test an app before submitting it for certification. The limits are deliberate:

Limit Value What it means for viewers
Testers per beta app 20 A code passed around online stops working once 20 accounts have it
Lifetime 120 days Then the app is deleted and disabled for everyone
Beta apps per developer 10 at once No way to run a rolling "service" at scale

Testers still use the same Add channel with a code box on my.roku.com, which is why old instructions seem half-right. But a beta app that vanishes after four months and serves 20 people can't be the basis of anything you'd pay for. If a seller offers you a "Roku code" for a subscription, either it will expire, or they're selling you something else entirely.

Some publishers also attach a short code to their certified, public app. Typing it adds that same store app to your account. It's a convenience, not a back door.

The other "codes": sign-in, secret screens, errors

Sign-in (activation) codes. When you open a streaming app on a Roku, it often shows a short code and tells you to enter it at the service's website on your phone. That links the app to your account. These are legitimate and free, and the address shown should be the service's own domain. Our guide to IPTV activation codes and which sites to trust covers this in detail.

The Roku activation scam. Setting up a Roku itself is free. Websites that look official and ask for a fee to "activate" a Roku, or ask you to phone a support number to pay, are scams that have run for years. Roku's own setup happens on roku.com, without a charge.

Secret screens. Roku players have hidden menus reached by pressing remote buttons in sequence. The best known is Home five times, Fast Forward three times, Rewind twice, which opens a diagnostic screen on many models. Another (Home five times, then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right) shows network details. They're useful for troubleshooting Wi-Fi; they don't unlock apps, and changing settings in them without knowing what they do can cause problems.

Error codes. Numbers like 009 or 014.30 describe a fault, usually a network one. They're worth searching on Roku's support site, but they aren't codes you enter.

How to spot a dead or dodgy code list

  • It was written before February 2022, or it's an old list with a new date at the top. Check whether it mentions the shutdown at all.
  • It uses the word "jailbreak". Roku players can't be jailbroken in any practical sense, and the word is used to attract clicks.
  • It tells you to turn on a VPN to make codes work. A VPN doesn't change what Roku allows you to install.
  • It charges for a code or bundles one with an "IPTV subscription". You're paying for a beta app that expires, or for nothing.
  • It asks for your Roku password on a site that isn't roku.com. Treat that as phishing.

And the bigger issue: most "IPTV" codes pointed to unlicensed channel packages. Even when they worked, they were the reason Roku closed the door.

What to do instead

Use the store. The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Tubi, Plex and others give you hundreds of free live channels, and every major paid live TV service has a Roku app. Our list of Roku live TV channels that actually work sorts them by type.

For a playlist you already pay for, Roku Store player apps accept an M3U link, and a home media server such as Jellyfin gives you a full guide on Roku. Our guide to playing your M3U on Roku via Jellyfin, Plex, Emby or casting walks through each route.

If you need apps Roku doesn't have, the answer is a different device rather than a code. An Android TV or Google TV box runs a far wider range of player apps for around $30-100.

Quick answers

Do Roku IPTV codes still work? No. They were access codes for private, non-certified channels, which Roku stopped installing and launching on 23 February 2022 worldwide.

Why is "Add channel with a code" still on my.roku.com? It's now used mainly for beta apps, which developers share with up to 20 testers for 120 days, and for short codes that add a public store app.

Can a beta app be used for an IPTV service? Not in any lasting way. Each beta app is limited to 20 testers and is deleted after 120 days.

Are there secret Roku codes that unlock channels? No. Remote-button sequences open diagnostic screens; they don't install or unlock apps.

Do I have to pay to activate a Roku? No. Roku setup is free on roku.com. Sites asking for an activation fee are scams.

Will a VPN make old Roku codes work? No. The shutdown applies to every country, so changing your location changes nothing.

How do I get IPTV on a Roku now? Through apps in the Roku Streaming Store: licensed live TV services, free channels, or a player app or media server for a playlist you already have.
