Short answer: you don't need an IPTV subscription to watch Indian news live in the US. Most major Indian news channels, including Aaj Tak, India Today, NDTV, ABP News and dozens of regional ones, run free 24-hour live streams on their official YouTube channels, which play on any smart TV. Paid services such as Sling's Desi packs add a proper channel guide and a few channels in one place. The catch is that the free streams sit alongside unofficial copies, so check the verified badge, and a handful of channels keep their full live feed for paid apps.

The table lists the major national channels and the official places they stream. All of the YouTube streams below are run by the broadcasters themselves; search the channel name in the YouTube app and look for the grey verification tick next to the name before you subscribe.

|---|---|---|---|
| Aaj Tak | Hindi | YouTube, channel website | Sling Desi (listed 2025) |

Bundle line-ups change when contracts renew, so "check current packs" means exactly that: open the service's channel list before paying for one news channel.
Regional-language news
Regional news is where the free route is strongest, because regional broadcasters rely heavily on YouTube for their overseas audience. A few of the large ones, all with official live streams:
| Language | Channels with official YouTube live streams |
|---|---|
| Telugu | TV9 Telugu, NTV Telugu, ABN Andhra Jyothy, V6 News |
| Tamil | Sun News, Puthiya Thalaimurai, Polimer News, Thanthi TV |
| Malayalam | Asianet News, Manorama News, Mathrubhumi News, 24 News |
| Kannada | TV9 Kannada, Public TV, Suvarna News |
| Marathi | ABP Majha, TV9 Marathi, Zee 24 Taas |
| Bengali | ABP Ananda, Zee 24 Ghanta, Republic Bangla |
| Gujarati | TV9 Gujarati, ABP Asmita |
| Punjabi | PTC News, News18 Punjab |
Which channels run a continuous live feed versus scheduled bulletins changes from time to time, and a channel may switch its live stream off during a rights dispute or a big cricket match it can't show abroad. If a stream disappears, check the channel's own website, which often carries the same feed.
For broader regional viewing beyond news, our guide to South Indian channels in the US covers entertainment as well.
When paying for news makes sense
Free YouTube streams are good, but they're not a TV service. You switch channels by going back to search, there's no programme guide, and autoplay sometimes wanders off to a different video when a stream ends. For someone who watches news for hours a day, usually a parent, a paid bundle can be worth it for the experience alone.
Sling Desi packs. Sling's 2025 marketing for its parents campaign listed Aaj Tak, India Today and Republic TV among the channels, with Desi Binge Plus at $15 a month after a $10 first month. You get a channel grid, the ability to flick between channels with the remote, and entertainment and cricket in the same app.
YuppTV. Its language packs include regional news channels alongside entertainment, with catch-up. Useful if the household watches, say, Telugu news and Telugu serials and wants both in one app.
What paying doesn't fix: the time difference. India's prime-time debates still air in the US morning. A paid service doesn't usually make them easier to watch later than YouTube does, where most channels post full bulletins and debate segments as separate videos within hours.
What time Indian news airs in the US
India runs on a single time zone (IST, UTC+5:30) all year. US clocks go back on November 1, 2026, so the gap widens by an hour for the winter.
| In India | US Eastern, now | US Eastern, from Nov 1 | US Pacific, now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning news, 7 a.m. | 9:30 p.m. (previous day) | 8:30 p.m. (previous day) | 6:30 p.m. (previous day) |
| Prime-time debates, 9 p.m. | 11:30 a.m. | 10:30 a.m. | 8:30 a.m. |
| Late bulletins, 11 p.m. | 1:30 p.m. | 12:30 p.m. | 10:30 a.m. |
That has a useful side effect. India's morning shows, with the day's headlines, land in the US evening, which is a convenient time to watch live. The big evening debates arrive late morning on the East Coast and at breakfast in California. Election-count days in India start around 8 a.m. India time, which is late evening in the US the night before; that's when live streams get busiest.
Putting YouTube news on the TV properly
Most smart TVs and every major streaming stick have the YouTube app. A few settings make it behave more like a news channel:
- Sign in to the YouTube app on the TV with the same Google account you use on your phone. Subscribe to the channels you want from the phone; they appear on the TV.
- Use the Subscriptions tab, then the Live filter. It lists channels that are live right now, which is the nearest thing YouTube has to a channel grid.
- Turn off autoplay in the TV app's settings, so an ended stream doesn't roll into an unrelated video.
- Cast from a phone if the TV app is fiddly. Older viewers often find picking a channel on a phone and tapping the cast icon easier than browsing with a remote.
- Turn on captions if they help; auto-captions are imperfect in Hindi but usually readable for English channels.
On a Fire TV Stick, Roku or Google TV, the YouTube app is free and pre-installed or one search away. If you're choosing a device for an older relative, our streaming TV for seniors guide walks through a simple setup.
Spotting unofficial and fake streams
Search "Aaj Tak live" or "NDTV live" and you'll often see several results. Some are the channel; others are re-uploads, clipped streams with extra ads, or videos with a "LIVE" thumbnail that are really hours old. A few habits help:
- Check the verification tick beside the channel name and the subscriber count; official news channels typically have millions of subscribers.
- Prefer the "Live" badge on the video over "LIVE" written into the thumbnail.
- Go to the channel page first, then its Live tab, rather than picking from search results.
- Avoid "all news channels" playlists passed around on messaging apps. They often link to unofficial restreams that break or carry malware-laden pages.
The same principle applies to paid offers. Sellers bundling "every Indian news and entertainment channel" into a cheap playlist aren't licensed, even if many of the news channels are free elsewhere. You'd be paying for something you can get legitimately for nothing, plus a lot of risk. Our article on IPTV legality in the US explains the difference.
Three setups that work
The free setup. A smart TV or streaming stick, the YouTube app, five or six subscribed news channels and autoplay turned off. Cost: nothing beyond your internet. Fine for most households.
The parent-friendly setup. Sling's Desi pack on the TV for news, serials and cricket in one guide, plus YouTube for the regional channel Sling doesn't carry. Cost: about $15 a month at 2025 prices.
The regional household. YuppTV's pack for your language, which mixes regional news with entertainment and catch-up. Check the channel list for your preferred news channel first.
