Short answer: on licensed live TV services, 4K costs anywhere from nothing extra to about $10 a month. YouTube TV charges $9.99 for its 4K Plus add-on; Fubo, Fox One, Peacock and DirecTV include their 4K events in the price; Hulu + Live TV and Philo don't offer live 4K at all. The catch is that the add-on is rarely the biggest cost. A 4K streaming device, enough broadband to sustain 25 Mbps at kickoff and, for films, the top tier of Netflix or Max usually add more than the 4K fee itself.

What 4K costs on each service, October 2026
The search results for "4K IPTV subscription" are mostly sellers' price tables for plans that promise every channel in 4K. That isn't possible from a licensed source, and it isn't what you're paying for with a real service. Here is what the licensed services actually charge, and what you get for it.
| Service | Base price | Extra for 4K | Monthly with 4K | What's in 4K |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV | $82.99 | $9.99 (4K Plus) | $92.98 | Selected live events and on-demand titles |
| Fubo | About $74-$89, by plan | $0 on eligible plans | About $74-$89 | Selected sports events |
| DirecTV (satellite or stream) | From about $85-$90 | $0, but 4K equipment needed | From about $85-$90 | Limited 4K events |
| Fox One | $19.99 | $0 | $19.99 | Selected Fox marquee events |
| Peacock Premium | $12.99 | $0 | $12.99 | Occasional big events; most sport in HD or 1080p HDR |
| Prime Video | Included with Prime | $0 | Prime price | Films and series; TNF in 1080p HDR |
| Hulu + Live TV | $89.99 | Not offered for live | n/a | No live 4K |
| Philo | About $25-$28 | Not offered | n/a | None |
Prices are US base prices before taxes, regional sports fees and promotions, collected from the services and from Engadget, Yahoo Tech and Consumer Reports coverage in mid-to-late 2026. Fubo's and DirecTV's prices vary by package and market, so treat those ranges as a guide.
YouTube TV: the only one that charges
4K Plus costs $9.99 a month on top of the $82.99 base plan. It has periodically been discounted for the first year, so check the offer when you sign up.
What makes it easier to justify is that 4K is only one of three things it adds. It also gives unlimited simultaneous streams on your home network and lets you download DVR recordings to watch offline. If you have a busy household, the stream allowance alone may be worth it.
What it can't do is make an event 4K. You'll see 4K only for the events produced that way, which in practice means a handful a week at most in football season, mostly from Fox. In a quiet week, you're paying for streams and downloads.
Worth it if: you watch Fox's big games and have a 4K HDR TV, or you need more than three streams at home. Skip it if: you mainly watch news, entertainment or prime-time NFL, none of which is in 4K.
Services where 4K is in the price
Fubo includes selected 4K sports events on eligible plans and devices with no add-on, which makes it the best-value route to 4K among the full live TV bundles. Note that it lost NBCUniversal channels in late 2025.
Fox One at $19.99 a month (or $199.99 a year) is by far the cheapest way into Fox's 4K games. Fox's own guidance is that most live sport on the service is 1080p and 4K is reserved for selected marquee events on compatible devices. There's also a bundle with ESPN; check current pricing in our Fox One guide.
DirecTV doesn't charge separately for 4K, but you need its 4K-capable receiver on satellite or a Gemini device on the streaming service, plus a 4K TV. DirecTV's own small print says 4K content is limited.
Peacock and Prime Video don't charge for 4K either, but their flagship NFL packages are produced in 1080p HDR rather than 4K. Peacock Premium rose to $12.99 on 17 September 2026.
Services with no live 4K
Hulu + Live TV at $89.99 doesn't stream its live channels in 4K. During Super Bowl LX in February 2026, it carried the game in HD while other platforms offered 4K. If live 4K matters to you, it's the wrong bundle, however good its on-demand library is.
Philo is a low-cost entertainment package without sport or 4K.
Sling TV has offered selected sport in 4K according to some 2026 reviews, but it's inconsistent and depends on the channel and device. Treat any Sling 4K as a bonus rather than a reason to subscribe.

The costs that aren't on the price list
For most households, the 4K add-on is the smallest line in the real budget.
| Item | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 4K streaming device | About $60-$130, one-off | Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd gen, Vega OS) $59.99; Apple TV 4K and Google TV Streamer cost more |
| Broadband for 4K | Often a tier above your current plan | Services recommend at least 25 Mbps per 4K stream, sustained |
| HDMI cable | About $10-$20 | Premium High Speed certified; old cables cause dropouts |
| On-demand 4K | Top tier of Netflix, Max and others | 4K films usually sit on the most expensive plan |
| Data | Several GB per hour of 4K | Matters if your ISP caps monthly data |
Two of those deserve a closer look.
Broadband. A 4K stream needs a steady 25 Mbps or so at the television, not just on a speed test beside the router. If your household already pushes a 100 Mbps plan in the evening, a single 4K game can tip it into buffering. Our guide to internet speed for 4K explains how to size it.
The device. TVs older than about five years often have apps that won't play 4K from every service, even when the panel is 4K. A current streamer fixes that. Amazon replaced the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and 4K Plus with a third-generation Fire TV Stick 4K on Vega OS at $59.99 at the end of September 2026; it's the cheapest current option from a major brand.
What a year of 4K live TV really costs
Adding it up for three common setups, using base prices and a one-off device in year one:
| Setup | Year one | After year one | What you get in 4K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fox One only + $59.99 stick | About $260 ($199.99 annual + stick) | About $200 a year | Selected Fox events |
| YouTube TV + 4K Plus + $59.99 stick | About $1,175 | About $1,116 a year | Fox 4K games and other selected events |
| Fubo + $59.99 stick | About $950-$1,130 | About $890-$1,070 a year | Selected sports events |
The $9.99 add-on works out at about $120 a year. Whether that's good value depends almost entirely on whether the events you watch are produced in 4K. Check our list of where live 4K actually exists before paying for it.
About cheap "4K subscriptions"
Plans that promise thousands of 4K channels for $10 to $20 a month are, almost without exception, unlicensed. They can't be paying for rights or for the bandwidth real 4K uses, and their "4K" labels are usually applied to compressed HD. There's no refund route when they disappear, and in the US, operating such a service is a crime, even though prosecutions target sellers rather than viewers.
If cost is the reason you're looking, the cheapest legitimate 4K sport in 2026 is Fox One at $19.99 a month, and the cheapest broad live TV bundle with 4K included is Fubo.
