Short answer: the Greek channels you can legally watch from the US aren't quite the ones people watch in Athens. The big networks send abroad special international versions, such as ERT World, ANT1 Satellite, Alpha Sat and MEGA Cosmos, built from their own shows because they don't hold worldwide rights to imported series, films or football. The best-value licensed starting point is ERT's own ERTFLIX, which has an international version for Greeks abroad on Roku, Apple TV and smart TVs. Live private-channel packages are thinner and change often, so check before you prepay.
At a glance
Greek TV from the US
| Start with | ERTFLIX international (ERT's own app) |
| Licensed live feeds | ERT World, ANT1 Satellite, Alpha Sat, MEGA Cosmos |
| Paid bundle | Sling's Greek package, launched 2018 at $25/month |
| Not sold abroad | Domestic feeds, Nova and Cosmote sports |
| Greek clubs in Europe | Paramount+ in the US |
Domestic channels vs international feeds
Every big Greek broadcaster runs two kinds of channel. The domestic one, which you'd see on an aerial in Thessaloniki, mixes Greek productions with imported series, films and sport. The international one carries the Greek-made shows, news and entertainment the broadcaster owns outright, because those are the only rights it can sell worldwide.
| Broadcaster | Domestic channel | International version |
|---|---|---|
| ERT (public) | ERT1, ERT2, ERT3, ERTNEWS | ERT World; ERTFLIX international |
| Antenna | ANT1 | ANT1 Satellite (also called Antenna Satellite) |
| Alpha | Alpha TV | Alpha Sat |
| MEGA | MEGA | MEGA Cosmos |
| Star, SKAI, Open | Domestic channels | Limited; mostly own websites and YouTube |
This explains the most common complaint, "the live stream on the website says it's not available in my region." You're hitting the domestic feed. The legal way round it is the broadcaster's international feed or app, not a VPN pretending you're in Greece, which breaks most services' terms and is exactly what their geo-blocking exists to stop. Our IPTV and VPN guide covers why.
ERTFLIX: the one to try first
ERT, the public broadcaster, launched an international version of its streaming service ERTFLIX in late 2023, aimed squarely at Greeks abroad. In a February 2024 interview with the Australian Greek paper Neos Kosmos, ERT described it as live and on-demand ERT programming for the diaspora.
What it carries, according to ERT and coverage of the launch:
- Greek series, new and classic, plus Greek films and documentaries
- Entertainment shows and children's programmes
- The 24-hour ERTNEWS channel and news bulletins
- Some sport, and material from ERT's archive
- "Voice of Greece" radio, with some English-language programming
- Greek and English subtitles on many programmes
What it leaves out: foreign series and films that ERT shows in Greece, because it only bought them for Greece.
Devices. ERTFLIX works in a web browser at ertflix.com and through apps on phones, LG, Samsung and Android TV sets, Roku and Apple TV. A free account with an email address adds favourites, "continue watching" and parental controls.
Cost. The coverage we found doesn't mention a charge for the international version, and signing up only asks for an email address. Confirm on the sign-up screen, but for most households this is the free foundation everything else sits on.
ERTFLIX also does catch-up well, which matters with a seven-hour time difference to the East Coast and ten to California. Our catch-up TV explainer covers how replay windows usually work.
ANT1, Alpha, MEGA, Star and SKAI abroad
Antenna runs ANT1 Next, a streaming service with a free, ad-supported tier for catching up on ANT1 programmes and paid tiers that add premium originals and live ANT1 channels. Availability outside Greece varies, and some content is marked as Greece-only, so check what the app shows you from the US before paying. The international ANT1 Satellite channel is the more reliable way to watch Antenna's shows live abroad.
Alpha and MEGA reach the diaspora mainly through Alpha Sat and MEGA Cosmos, which are distributed through pay-TV and streaming partners abroad rather than sold to you directly.
Star, SKAI and Open have less international distribution. Their own websites and official YouTube channels, which post clips and some full episodes, are the main legal routes, with the usual geo-blocks on live feeds.
If one network's series is all you care about, look at its own app first. If you want several networks live, you need a bundle.
Paid live packages in the US
The best-known US bundle has been Sling TV's Greek package. Sling launched it in October 2018 as "Greek Mosaic" at $25 a month, with Antenna Satellite, Alpha Sat, MEGA Cosmos, Sport Plus and Greek Cinema among the channels.
That was eight years ago. International packages on Sling get renamed, repriced and reshuffled as deals renew, so we're not going to quote a 2026 price we couldn't confirm. Before signing up:
- Open Sling's international page and find the current Greek package by name.
- Check each channel you want is still listed, especially MEGA Cosmos and ANT1 Satellite.
- Compare the monthly price against the prepaid annual rate, and start monthly.
Our Sling TV packages guide explains how Sling's base plans and add-ons fit together if you also want English-language channels in the same app.
Some Greek-American households in big metro areas still get Greek channels through their cable provider's international tier. If you already have cable, ask; it's sometimes cheaper than a separate stream.
Greek football and basketball
Sport is the gap. In Greece, the domestic Super League and Basket League sit mainly with Cosmote TV and Nova, which are subscription services for Greece. They don't sell to US households.
- Greek clubs in Europe: Olympiacos, PAOK, Panathinaikos and AEK in the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League are on Paramount+ in the US for 2026-27. See our Champions League in the USA guide.
- EuroLeague basketball, where Olympiacos and Panathinaikos are regulars, has its own streaming pass from the league; check its current US price before the season.
- Greek Super League international rights are sold separately and move. We couldn't confirm a US home for 2026-27, so check the league's announcement before trusting anyone who claims to have it.
If a Greek package lists a sports channel, check its schedule before assuming it carries live league matches. Sports channels in diaspora packages often lean on magazine shows, highlights and lower-tier events.
Putting it together
| You want | Set-up | Cost guide |
|---|---|---|
| News and ERT series | ERTFLIX international | Free account, as far as we could find |
| One private network's shows | ERTFLIX plus that network's app or YouTube | Free to a few dollars a month |
| Several Greek channels live | Sling's Greek package plus ERTFLIX | Sling's current Greek price (was $25 at launch) |
| Greek clubs in Europe | Add Paramount+ in-season | From about $8 a month |
All of these run on Roku, Fire TV, Google TV and Apple TV. For yiayia's TV, a single device with ERTFLIX and one live app on the home row beats a box full of channels nobody can find.
The €9 "all Greek channels" offers
Search for Greek IPTV and the top results are listicles and seller pages offering every Greek channel, including Nova and Cosmote sports, for roughly €9 to €25 a month, often with a 24-hour trial. None of those sellers hold the rights. Greek pay-TV sport isn't licensed for resale abroad at any price, let alone that one.
Those services are the first to drop out on derby nights, they disappear without refunds, and Greece has stepped up enforcement against them in recent years. Our guide to spotting an IPTV scam lists the signs. With ERTFLIX available free to the diaspora, there's no good reason to start with a seller.
