At a glance
Hindi TV in the US, by budget
| $0 | Hindi news live, music, some films, on YouTube |
| About $15/mo | Star and Sony serials + cricket (Sling Desi Binge Plus) |
| About $20/mo | Add ZEE5 for Zee TV and &TV shows |
| $30-$55+/mo | Live Hindi channels in a TV guide |
| Hardest to get | Star Plus and Zee TV live, together, cheaply |
Short answer: for Hindi channels in the US, the best licensed "IPTV" is usually a pair: Sling's Desi Binge Plus (Star and Sony shows plus Willow cricket, $15 a month on Sling's 2025 pricing) and ZEE5 for Zee. That covers the three big Hindi networks for about $20 a month. The catch is that this is mostly on-demand. If someone wants Hindi channels running live all day, you're looking at a Sling live Hindi pack or a DISH Hindi pack, and $30 to $55 a month or more.
What Hindi viewers actually watch
Search results for this keyword are full of sellers listing "230 Hindi channels". Hindi-speaking households in the US don't watch 230 channels. They watch a few types of content, and each comes from a different place:
| Content | Main channels in India | Best licensed US route |
|---|---|---|
| Daily serials | Star Plus, Colors, Zee TV, Sony, SAB, &TV, Star Bharat | Sling Desi packs + ZEE5 |
| Films | SET Max, Zee Cinema, Star Gold, B4U Movies | Netflix, Prime Video, ZEE5 libraries; DISH for live movie channels |
| News | Aaj Tak, ABP News, India TV, NDTV India, Zee News | Free official YouTube streams |
| Cricket | Star Sports, Sony Sports | Willow (not the Indian channels) |
| Music, bhajans | 9XM, Zing, B4U Music, Aastha, Sanskar | Official YouTube channels, mostly free |
Seen this way, only one category, serials, really needs a paid Indian service. That's where the money should go.
Hindi serials: the Star, Zee and Sony split
The big Hindi entertainment channels belong to three groups, and each sells US rights separately. That single fact explains almost every Hindi TV bill in America.
Star Plus, Colors and Star Bharat belong to JioStar. In the US their live feeds have been in Sling's Hindi pack, and their shows are on demand in Sling's cheaper Desi Binge Plus through "Hotstar Specials" and "Star India On Demand". JioHotstar, the Indian app, isn't available in the US, and Hotstar's old US service closed in November 2021. Some older Star serials ended up on Hulu.
Sony Entertainment and SAB are Sony's. SonyLIV carries their shows and is bundled in Desi Binge Plus, which is usually cheaper than buying it alone if you also want cricket. SAB's comedies are reliably on demand there.
Zee TV and &TV are Zee's. The ZEE5 US app carries their shows and lists some live channels; its annual plan has been sold as a $59.99 gift card, about $5 a month. On cable, Xfinity sells Zee TV HD as a $14.99 add-on and DISH includes it in its Hindi packs.
Which network should you prioritise? Ask the main viewer to name the serials they follow right now, then look up which channel airs each. In most homes one network dominates: a Star Plus household rarely watches much Zee, and the reverse. Pay for that network's route first and add the second only when a specific show demands it. Serials end and new ones start every few months, so revisit this when a favourite finishes; the best-value setup in March may not be the best in September.
Serials air at prime time in India, which is late morning or midday on the US East Coast. New episodes usually appear on demand within hours, so for most viewers on-demand is just as good as live and far cheaper. Our channel-by-channel map lists exactly which service holds each channel today.
Hindi movies
Here's where a Hindi-speaking household can save the most. You probably don't need an Indian service for films at all.
- Netflix and Prime Video both carry large Hindi film catalogues in the US, including recent releases and their own Hindi originals. Many international films also carry Hindi audio.
- ZEE5 and SonyLIV add their networks' film libraries, which lean toward the 1990s and 2000s classics older viewers ask for.
- Live movie channels such as SET Max, B4U Movies and Big Magic are mainly a DISH thing; its Hindi Mega pack lists them, and it sells a $19.99 Hindi Movie Pack too (dealer listing). Worth it only if someone likes a film channel playing in the background.
If films are the main reason you're looking at Hindi IPTV, check what's already in the Hindi section of the apps you pay for before adding anything.
Hindi news, free
Aaj Tak, ABP News, India TV, NDTV India and Zee News all run official live streams on their verified YouTube channels. On a TV, open the YouTube app, search the channel name and look for the "LIVE" badge. Subscribe to the ones you use so they appear at the top.
That's the same feed you'd get in a paid pack, without the TV-guide format. Pay for news in a bundle only if the person watching genuinely can't manage YouTube; in that case the DISH Hindi Mega pack (Aaj Tak, NDTV 24x7) and Xfinity's ABP News add-on are the cable routes.
Avoid apps that bundle dozens of Indian news channels from one unofficial source. If it isn't the broadcaster's own channel, it's a restream.
Music, comedy and devotional
Music labels such as T-Series and Zee Music, and broadcasters' music brands, publish heavily on YouTube. A Hindi music channel on cable adds little that a YouTube playlist doesn't.
Comedy follows the serials: SAB shows are on SonyLIV, Star's comedy on Sling's on-demand libraries, and Hindi stand-up mostly on Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube.
Devotional channels like Aastha and Sanskar stream live on their official YouTube channels, and many temples stream aarti and darshan directly. Our guide to Indian kids' and devotional channels in the US lists the official sources.
Four budgets, four setups
| Budget | Setup | Gets you | Misses |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0 | YouTube + Hindi films on apps you have | News, music, devotional, some films | Serials, cricket |
| ~$15/mo | Sling Desi Binge Plus | Star and Sony serials on demand, Willow | Zee shows, most live channels |
| ~$20/mo | Desi Binge Plus + ZEE5 (annual) | All three networks' serials, cricket | Live channels in a guide |
| $30-$55+/mo | Sling live Hindi pack, or DISH Hindi pack on an existing DISH plan | Live Hindi channels all day | Usually one of Star or Zee live |
Sling's Hindi live pack was listed at about $30 a month in 2023, and DISH's Hindi Mega at $54.99 on top of a base package; check both today. The $20 option is the sweet spot for most working households. The top tier is mainly for parents at home during the day. Full price details are in our licensed subscription comparison.
One tip on the $20 setup: put both apps on the first row of the TV's home screen and favourite the shows inside each. Two apps feel like one service once the shows are a click away.
The Hindi IPTV offers to skip
Most of the first page for "IPTV for Indian channels" is sellers promising every Hindi channel live, often thousands of channels, for $15 to $45 a month or a few hundred dollars for several years with a box. None of the ones we reviewed named a broadcaster agreement.
The arithmetic gives them away. JioStar, Zee and Sony each charge licensed distributors for their channels, which is why a legitimate Hindi live pack costs what it does. A plan with all three networks live, plus thousands of others, for less than one network's licensed price isn't paying for any of them. Those services get shut down and leave customers with nothing for their prepayment. This explainer covers what they sell and why they disappear.
