Most "IPTV 2027" pages are either seller ads with a new year in the title or trend pieces about 6G and 8K. Neither helps you decide what to pay for next year. What will actually change how you watch live TV in 2027 is more mundane and more knowable: which company holds which games, how fast prices keep rising, and what your streaming device will and won't let you install.
Short answer: expect 2027 to be a year of more sport moving to streaming apps, steady price rises, and tighter device platforms. The Super Bowl in February 2027 airs on ABC and ESPN for the first time, the Women's World Cup that summer is on Netflix in the US, and the NFL is widely expected to reopen its TV deals early. On devices, Amazon's switch to Vega OS and Google's developer verification rollout make installing apps from outside an official store harder on both of the biggest TV platforms.

The 2027 calendar: what's confirmed
These are announced or scheduled. Anything below this table that says "expected" is our reading of the market, not a fact.
| When | What | Where to watch (US) |
|---|---|---|
| Feb 14, 2027 | Super Bowl LXI, SoFi Stadium | ABC, ESPN, ESPN Unlimited, NFL+; Univision in Spanish |
| Through 2027 | Google's Android developer verification expands globally | Affects certified Android devices |
| Summer 2027 | FIFA Women's World Cup, Brazil | Netflix holds US rights (2027 and 2031) |
| Fall 2027 | Rugby World Cup (Australia), Cricket World Cup (southern Africa) | US rights holders to be confirmed nearer the time |
| 2027-28 season | Last season of the NHL's current US deals with ESPN and TNT | ESPN/ABC, TNT/truTV/HBO Max |
The Super Bowl detail is the one to underline. It's the first time ESPN has ever aired the game, and the first on ABC since 2006. If you watch through a live TV service, you'll get it via ABC; if you're on an antenna, it's free; and ESPN Unlimited at $31.99 a month carries it too. Our guide to the ESPN streaming service covers those plans.
Rights deals: who holds what next
NFL. The current 11-year deals signed in 2021 run to 2033 on paper, but the league has an opt-out after the 2029 season that reporting in 2026 says it will almost certainly use. Talks are already under way, with Google/YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Paramount, Fox and NBC all positioning. Don't expect new games to move in 2027 itself, but do expect headlines, and possibly early extensions that shift a package or two from broadcast to streaming later in the decade.
NBA. The new deals with ESPN/ABC, NBC/Peacock and Amazon Prime Video started in 2025-26 and will run in 2027 unchanged. If you're still adjusting, see our NBA 2026-27 guide.
MLB and NHL. MLB's national deals and the NHL's US deals both end around 2028, so 2027 is when their next packages get negotiated. MLB has been open about wanting a national streaming package for local games; any change would land in 2029 at the earliest.
Soccer. After a home World Cup in 2026, the next big US soccer rights moment is the women's tournament on Netflix. Netflix doesn't sell a live TV bundle, so you'd need its plan alongside whatever you already have.
The trend across all of these is the same: fewer games on a channel you get with a bundle, more on a standalone app. That's good for people who only follow one sport and bad for anyone who follows three.
Prices: what to budget for
We can't know 2027 prices, but the pattern is clear. Here's where the main services stood in October 2026:
| Service | October 2026 price | Recent direction |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV | $82.99 | Up roughly yearly |
| Hulu + Live TV | $99.99 (with ads) | Up |
| ESPN Unlimited | $31.99 | New in 2025, already risen |
| Peacock Premium | $12.99 | Raised Sept 17, 2026 |
| Fox One | $19.99 | Launched 2025 |
A sensible planning assumption is that each service you keep will cost a few dollars a month more by the end of 2027. If you're rebuilding your setup, price it at that level, not today's. Our YouTube TV price history shows how consistent the rises have been.
There's one counter-trend: cheaper "skinny" tiers. Sling's Essentials and Select from $19.99 and genre bundles such as DirecTV's MySports suggest services know many households will not pay $90-plus. Expect more of those.
Devices: the closing of the side door
This is the change most IPTV users will feel first.
Amazon. New Fire TV Sticks run Vega OS, Amazon's own system, which only installs apps from the Amazon Appstore. On September 30, 2026 Amazon discontinued the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and 4K Plus and launched a third-generation Fire TV Stick 4K on Vega OS at $59.99. By 2027 most new Fire TV buyers will be on a platform with no sideloading at all. We break this down in Vega OS vs Fire OS.
Google. Android developer verification began on September 30, 2026 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, and Google says it will roll out globally in 2027 for apps on certified Android devices. Google describes an "advanced flow" for power users who still want unverified apps. Google's page doesn't specifically mention Android TV or Google TV, so the exact effect on TV boxes is still to be confirmed. Our explainer on Google's new sideloading rules tracks it.
Player apps. TiviMate left Google Play in late July 2026. Expect more churn among player apps as stores tighten. Mainstream services with official apps won't be affected.
Tech: latency, codecs and antenna TV
Latency. The gap between a live play and your screen keeps shrinking on major services, but streaming will still usually trail cable and antenna in 2027. If spoilers from your phone matter, an antenna remains the fastest option.
Codecs. Expect more AV1 and HEVC streams from services that want to save bandwidth, especially for 4K. Older sticks without AV1 decoding will keep working but fall back to heavier streams.
ATSC 3.0. NextGen TV reaches a large share of US homes, but as of September 2026 the FCC had not set a national switch-off date for the old standard, and encryption on some NextGen stations still limits which tuners work. Our ATSC 3.0 guide explains what to buy. Don't expect your current antenna setup to stop working in 2027.
8K and 6G. You'll see these in trend pieces. You won't see them in live TV in 2027 in any meaningful way.
Enforcement against unlicensed IPTV
2026 brought a steady run of raids, court-ordered blocks and platform-level app bans, which we've logged in IPTV crackdown 2026. Nothing suggests that slows in 2027. The device changes above are part of the same story: platforms are making it harder for apps built around unlicensed streams to reach TVs. If your setup depends on one, 2027 is a good year to move to something licensed before it breaks during a big game.
What won't change
- Local channels will still be free over the air.
- Every licensed live TV service will still be month to month.
- Your internet connection, not the service, will still cause most buffering.
- No single service will carry every game you care about.
What to do before 2027 starts
- Check your stick. If it's a Fire OS model you rely on for a particular app, it'll keep working, but don't assume a replacement will. Settings → My Fire TV → About tells you which you have.
- List your must-have events. Super Bowl, a team, a tournament. Then map each to the app or channel that has it in 2027, not 2026.
- Avoid long prepaid plans. With rights shifting, a 12-month commitment can leave you paying for the wrong service. Month to month is the safer default.
- Keep an antenna. It's the one part of the setup that isn't getting more expensive.
Quick answers
Where can I watch the 2027 Super Bowl? On ABC and ESPN, with ESPN Unlimited and NFL+ streaming it, and Univision in Spanish. It's on February 14, 2027.
Will IPTV prices go up in 2027? Very likely. Most major services have raised prices about once a year recently.
Who has the 2027 Women's World Cup in the US? Netflix, which holds US rights for the 2027 and 2031 tournaments.
Will the NFL change TV partners in 2027? Not for 2027 games. Negotiations for the next deals are under way, but changes would take effect later in the decade.
Can I still sideload apps on a Fire TV Stick in 2027? Only on older Fire OS models. New Vega OS sticks install Appstore apps only.
Will my antenna stop working because of ATSC 3.0? Not in 2027 as things stand. No national switch-off date had been set by the FCC as of September 2026.
Is there an "IPTV 2027" subscription worth buying now? Long multi-year plans from unlicensed sellers are the riskiest way to pay for TV. Stick to month-to-month licensed services.
This is a forward look. Event dates and rights holders are as announced by October 2026; rights deals, prices and platform policies can change before or during 2027. Statements marked "expected" are our reading, not confirmed plans. Checked October 2026.
