Best UK IPTV Provider for 4K and HDR in 2026

Short answer: the best UK provider for 4K and HDR is Sky, on Sky Stream or Sky Glass with the Ultra HD & Dolby Atmos add-on. Nobody else shows as much live sport in 4K: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports F1 have UHD channels, every F1 race and selected Premier League matches are in 4K, and Sky's HDR uses HLG, the format built for live TV. If you don't want a contract, NOW with Ultra Boost gets you much of the same. The catch: no provider makes everything 4K, and Sky charges extra for it on top of the package.

The ranking

The pages ranking for "best UK IPTV provider" mostly list unlicensed services that each claim thousands of 4K channels, sometimes 8K. There aren't thousands of 4K channels in the UK. There are a few, and they belong to the providers below. We ranked licensed UK services on how much live TV you'll actually see in 4K and HDR, then on what it costs to unlock.

Rank Provider and tier Live 4K HDR on live Extra cost for 4K Speed asked

Prices and speeds are from each provider's pages in early October 2026, except Sky's add-on price, which was last confirmed in 2025 and should be checked at checkout.

1. Sky: the most live 4K

What's in 4K. Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports F1 have dedicated UHD versions. Every Formula 1 race weekend, a run of Premier League matches each season, selected Sky Cinema films and Sky Originals, plus some Sky Atlantic series, come in Ultra HD. If you watch Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, you'll see a lot of it; if you only have Essential TV, much less.

HDR. Sky uses HLG, the Hybrid Log-Gamma format the BBC and Japan's NHK designed for live broadcasting. It needs no metadata, which is why it suits a live match. Your TV must support 10-bit HLG; almost every 4K HDR TV sold in the last few years does. There's no Dolby Vision on Sky's live channels.

What it costs. On Sky Stream and Sky Glass, UHD and Dolby Atmos is an add-on rather than standard; it was listed at £6 a month in 2025. A typical 4K sport setup on a 24-month term looks like this:

Item Monthly (24 months)
Sky Essential TV on Sky Stream £15
Sky Sports £33
Ultra HD & Dolby Atmos add-on About £6 (check current price)
Total, before the April rise About £54

On a 31-day plan, add roughly £3 to each of the TV and sports lines. Sky Glass builds the same service into a TV from £699, which only makes sense if you were buying a TV anyway.

The catches. Sky asks for at least 25Mbps for 4K. Not every match is in UHD; check the guide's UHD channel before kick-off. Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max inside Sky's bundles come on their ad-supported tiers, which aren't 4K. Sky's UHD pack covers Sky's own channels, not the apps.

2. NOW Ultra Boost: 4K without a contract

NOW is Sky's streaming service, and since Ultra Boost arrived it's the way to get Sky's 4K without signing for two years. NOW describes Ultra Boost as streaming "in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Atmos surround sound and on 3 devices at once", on selected content and devices, and asks for a minimum of 30Mbps.

  • What you need first: a NOW membership. Sports is £34.99 a month or £14.99 a day; Entertainment is £7.99 rolling or £4.99 on a six-month term; Cinema is £9.99.
  • Boost vs Ultra Boost: Boost gives Full HD 1080p, Dolby Digital 5.1 and two devices, from 12Mbps. Ultra Boost adds 4K, Atmos and a third device. Plain NOW without either is HD-ready only, which looks soft on a big TV.
  • Device support matters more here. 4K on NOW depends on the app for your TV or stick. Check NOW's device list for your exact model before paying for Ultra Boost.

For a football fan who drops sport in summer, NOW Sports with Ultra Boost for the season is usually cheaper than a Sky contract with the UHD pack. Our no-contract UK TV guide shows how to rotate it.

3 and 4. TNT Sports in 4K

TNT has the Saturday 12.30 Premier League match and, in 2026-27, the Champions League. There are two routes to its 4K:

Route 4K tier Price (Oct 2026) Notes
HBO Max app HBO Max Premium + TNT Sports £14.99 Premium; TNT is a £30.99 add-on Premium streams in 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos where available
EE / BT TV box TNT Sports Ultimate Depends on package Needs broadband faster than 40Mbps
Sky box TNT Sports via Sky £31/mo rolling Check whether 4K is offered on your box

One thing to watch: HBO Max's cheaper Standard plans stop at Full HD, so paying for TNT on top of Standard with Ads (£36.98 combined) won't get you 4K. Since 26 March 2026 TNT has streamed through HBO Max rather than discovery+; our 2026 changelog covers the move.

5. BBC iPlayer and free 4K

The BBC helped invent HLG, and iPlayer has carried some of the biggest events in UHD with HLG HDR in recent years, such as Wimbledon and international football tournaments, on compatible TVs and devices. It costs nothing beyond the £180 TV licence.

It's a bonus, not a reason to choose a provider: UHD on iPlayer is reserved for selected events, and the regular BBC channels are HD. Freeview and Freely are HD too. If you mainly watch free TV, a 4K provider buys you very little. See our Freely vs Freeview guide for that route.

6. Virgin Media

Virgin's current Stream box is 4K-capable and runs apps such as Netflix alongside live channels. How much live 4K you get depends on your bundle and the sports channels in it, so check the UHD channel list for your package before signing a 24-month contract. Virgin's TV comes only with its own broadband, which makes it a sensible 4K choice when your broadband contract is ending, and an awkward one otherwise. Our UK broadband TV comparison has the bundle prices.

4K films and series: what each app charges

A lot of the 4K you'll actually watch is on-demand, and every app puts it behind its top tier. Prices listed in October 2026:

Service 4K tier Price Cheaper tiers
Netflix Premium £20.99/mo Standard £13.99, with Adverts £7.99, both Full HD
Disney+ Premium £14.99/mo (£10.99 on a 6-month saver) Standard £9.99, with Ads £5.99, both 1080p
HBO Max Premium £14.99/mo Standard £9.99, with Ads £5.99, both Full HD
NOW Ultra Boost add-on On top of membership Boost is Full HD

That's where 4K gets expensive: Netflix Premium, Disney+ Premium and HBO Max Premium together come to £50.97 a month. If 4K matters mainly for one or two shows, upgrade one app for the month you're watching them and drop back afterwards.

What your TV and broadband need

Paying for 4K and getting HD is common, and it's rarely the provider's fault.

  • A TV that handles HLG. Most 4K HDR TVs do; check the spec sheet for "HLG". Brightness matters too: a budget panel can show the HDR badge without much visible benefit.
  • The right HDMI setting. Many TVs ship with HDMI ports in a compatibility mode that blocks 4K HDR. Look for Input Signal Plus (Samsung), HDMI Ultra HD Deep Colour (LG) or HDMI signal format: Enhanced (Sony).
  • HDCP 2.2 on the port, which most 4K TVs have on at least one input.
  • Enough speed at the TV, not at the router: 25Mbps for Sky, 30Mbps for NOW Ultra Boost, 40Mbps-plus for TNT Ultimate on EE. Use Ethernet if you can.
  • A soundbar that passes 4K HDR through, or connect the box to the TV and send sound back over eARC.

About "4K IPTV" channel lists

Unlicensed sellers advertise hundreds of "4K" and "8K" UK channels for under £10 a month. Licensed UK TV has a handful of 4K live channels, and UK broadcasters don't transmit in 8K at all. What those lists label 4K is usually an HD stream re-encoded, or a single feed relabelled several times. It also comes without any rights to the channels; in August 2026 a UK server operator was jailed for six and a half years. If 4K picture quality is the reason you're looking, a licensed provider is the only place you'll find it. Our licence check for UK providers explains how to tell.

Quick answers
